September 21 has been declared the International Day of Peace by the United Nations. TivoliVredenburg and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble felt that too little attention was being paid to this very important day and decided to add luster to the day together.
During the previous edition, refugees performed as soloists. The concert received an honorable place in the top 10 of the most beautiful TivoliVredenburg moments of 2021. This year again it promises to be an impressive performance, with music from all over the world – especially from the places where peace is so needed right now.
The Tarab Choir in Rotterdam is an new international culturally diverse choir consisting of 35 members forming a new unity sharing joy, dedication and the love for Arabic Andalusian heritage: Muwashahaat. The choir is guided by director, musician and expert in Tarab, Majed Saraiedin.
TARAB choir aims to select compositions according to both artistic and historical value, not merely according to ancient relevance, apart from touristic folklore. The old Syrian composers, both acknowledged and unacknowledged, played a significant role in enriching the musical anecdotes.
Our endeavour today is to document and bring their masterpieces back to life and to heartily put them in the hands of the noble audience and musicians. This is motivated by a desire to contribute to the emergence of a new musical rebirth with authentic and profound roots, one that connects the present with our rich history and leads them both to a bright future.
